Applied Development Ranks as a Baltimore Fast 50 Company

The Baltimore Business Journal recognized Applied Development as one of the 50 fastest-growing companies in the region.

BALTIMORE – The Baltimore Business Journal (BBJ) today named Applied Development one of the 50 fastest-growing private companies in the region. The BBJ ranked companies by the “highest average percent change in the three-year span from 2016 to 2018.” Additionally, companies needed at least $100,000 of revenue in 2016 and $1 million in 2018. This list comprises businesses from virtually all industries including finance, communications, construction, consulting, and entertainment.

Applied Development champions the rights of people of all abilities to communicate effectively. Through their diversability services, they offer sign language interpretation, reader services, other reasonable accommodations services, and disability compliance services. Their communications services ensure client’s messaging is communicated and received as intended through services like technical writing, graphic design, and publications support.

“This is a fantastic honor,” says CEO Kimberly Citizen. “This year, we’ve received so much recognition for our growth, and it feels good to receive it here in our great city of Baltimore. We are proud to be headquartered here in Baltimore and look forward to continued growth here.”

After serving the United States military and working for federal government contractors, Citizen founded Applied Development in 2011. Today, the company has grown to provide services for federal, state, and local agencies including Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the U.S. Army National Guard, the Department of Agriculture, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), and Defense Human Resources Activity (DHRA). The company is an 8a, HUBZone-certified, Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business, and Economically Disadvantaged Woman Owned Small Business.

This is not the first ranking Applied Development has received from the BBJ. In January, the BBJ ranked the company on the BBJ’s Book of Lists as the twentieth largest veteran-owned business in greater Baltimore.

In addition to being one of the fastest-growing companies in Baltimore, Applied Development also made the 2019 Inc. magazine’s Inc. 5000, the most prestigious ranking of the fastest-growing private companies in the United States. Earlier this year, the company also received recognition for outstanding growth and revenue by the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program and the National Veteran-Owned Business Association (NaVOBA).

On October 17, 2019, the BBJ will reveal the full ranking, and will honor the top ten. Accounting and consulting firm SC&H verified the revenue and growth numbers for each company. At the event, the BBJ also reports that SC&H “will present three awards to companies that best exemplify SC&H’s core values of powerful minds, passionate teams and proven results.”
