A very dark stage with a man sitting at a table and a woman standing across from him. Light illuminates the floor, but their faces are not visible.

This Monday is Memorial Day, where we honor and remember the men and women who died while in service. For veterans like me, that often means reflecting on the risks and sacrifices members of our military face. Even when we come home safely, we face numerous challenges from unemployment to post-traumatic stress and trauma. However, many nonprofits are stepping up to serve the needs of veterans. Our CEO Kimberly Citizen reflects on one organization using theater as therapy for veteran. As a board member of the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, she’s proud of a new Creative Forces® “Community Connections” program with Walter Reed Medical Center that seeks to improve health and well-being of veterans through building skills like communication, empathy, and teamwork.
